Wild silk development

- Wild silk development to revive Java Forest -
The Yogyakarta royal family is responsible for protecting and nurturing Javanese traditional culture. Many traditional cultures are still inherited on Java Island, and especially Batik (Javanese cloth) and Ikat have been highly evaluated worldwide. However, at present, most of the raw material silk is imported from China and other countries.
At the early stage of the project, we tried to promote ordinary silk with the aim of producing raw materials in our country. However, domestic silkworms are required to compete with China and other countries in the global market at low prices, and in order to do so, they must consider considerable investment plans based on mechanization. During the economic crisis, Sultan and Queen found the possibility to develop wild silkworms as a business that can be done without the burden of initial investment and ongoing funds for farmers.
